Jurassic World Filming Location

Jurassic World Taps the Timeless Beauty of Kauai

The hype machine is in full motion for the upcoming Jurassic World, which drops in theaters on June 12th, starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Howard. This movie is going to feature a return to the well-established series with a new story line about genetically enhanced dinos and friendly velociraptors, adding a fresh take on the classic “Dinosaur Park” concept. For longtime lovers of the franchise and for newcomers who just can’t get enough Pratt, there’s a lot to love. But it can be easy to overlook one of the most important parts of the film production process: location.

A Timeless Location

A portion of the Jurassic World film was filmed on our fabulous Kauai Ranch, as were sections of the original Jurassic Park over 20 years ago. When you consider the really significant measures that go into the production of a film, it might seem counter-intuitive to think about hauling that equipment, crew, and staff across the Pacific Ocean! But there’s a good reason that film companies choose Kauai as a location for their shooting, and it’s not just that everybody would love a good reason to spend a few weeks in Hawaii!

Kauai is a unique place, not quite like any other part on the island. There are verdant plains that spread out in all directions, set against backdrops of massive mountains and pristine coastlines. The lush foliage that threads the land here is overflowing with a casual bounty, and the picturesque vistas that treat the eyes could be seen as nothing less than inspired. Truly, Kauai is the perfect place to represent what the Jurassic series features: a precious slice of land that has preserved across centuries, offering its abundant beauty across time. Could there be any better place to capture that idea?

Kauai Ranch is a Premier Film Destination

Of course, it’s not just the Jurassic series who have taken note of the wonder of Kauai Ranch. We have also hosted film crews for such projects as The Descendants (a deeply impactful movie starring George Clooney and based on-location in Hawaii,) Tropic Thunder, and even NBC’s the Biggest Loser. So there’s no doubt that others are aware what a priceless place this is, and the naturally photogenic land will continue to draw people here for many years to come.

There is always more to be gained from such a beautiful place, and creative minds will find that the sky truly is the limit when it comes to the possibilities of Kauai Ranch. It offers much more than simply being the land that time forgot, and suggests perhaps something more fundamental: it is the quintessential fantasy setting, a testament to natural beauty and wonder. In one moment you appear to be in the heights of the tropics, but within just a few minutes, you can be in a valley a like something from endless miles away.

We all know that Hawaii is a beautiful place, but we speak no exaggeration when we say that this place is pure fantasy fuel. You don’t need to take our word for it– just take a look yourself! Pragmatists will also be satisfied by the accommodations available at Kauai Ranch, which is specifically outfitted to make things seamless and pain-free for production crews. From wide-berth roads to even helicopter pads, we’ve got everything that you could need to get your production into full swing with no hassle. So there’s little wonder why Jurassic World would seek out this location; where timeless lands meet a modern convenience, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better location for any film project.
